Low Carbon£ºmodern agriculture¡¯s way back

Part Two: the proposal and promotion of low-carbon agriculture
Along with economy developing, greenhouse gas emissions are increasing year by year. Over-emission has led to global warming and abnormal weather that is threatening human survival and

development. Since human beings stepped into the industrial society, the global temperature has been on an upward trend. In 1860-2000 global surface temperature increased 0.4-0.8 ¡æ (average of 0.6 ¡æ). 90.3% of greenhouse gases are emitted by human, 56.6% of which is carbon dioxide emitted by burning. 19.4% is carbon dioxide produced by deforestation, bio-humus and peat. The rest 14.3% is methane produced by agriculture, wastes and energy....

One after another, what are the reasons of food safety incidents?

Two food safety incidents recently occur in China, Chicken mcnuggets incident and melamine detected in milk powder in Guansu province. Why food safety incidents happen one after another?

Unfair competition
The competition in Chinese food industry is furious. But the industry is less consolidated. The majority of Chinese food manufacturers are small and middle sized companies, having low technical level. Also, processing is in the upstream of industry, the long industrial chain shrinks manufacturers¡¯ profits. Consequently, food manufacturers have to control cost mainly in the aspects of labor and materials. However, cutting the cost of materials means the reduction of quality.

Punishment is not serious enough
If manufacturers trim cost by reducing product quality and therefore go against regulations, they have to be punished. If the punishment is not serious enough, it can hardly alarm others. Actually, serious regulations, strict enforcement and timely exposure in media are important factors to ensure food safety.

Low price of food
With the government strengthening supervision, the price of food will probably rise overall. High price does not mean high quality, but low price is indeed a factor impacting on food safety. Low price attributes to over competition that decreases manufacturers¡¯ profits. The food manufacturers have to cut cost that leads to products quality falling. However, Chinese consumers are very sensitive to price, but changes in quality can hardly be noticed. Therefore, enterprises prefer price war than improving quality....
