China's top three dairy companies, namely, China Mengniu Dairy, Yili Group and Bright Dairy have all re-versed their losses in 2008 into prof-its in 2009, having dissipated the clouds of the melamine scandal which broke out in 2008 (see no 118 page 5-7). Mengniu, based in Inner Mongo-lia, reported a net profit of RMB 1.1bn in 2009, as compared to a net loss of RMB 950m in 2008. Its turn-over rose 8% to RMB 26bn in 2009. Yili, also based in Inner Mongolia, earned a net profit of RMB 648m in 2009, reversing a huge loss of RMB 1.7bn in 2009. Its turnover jumped 12% to RMB 24bn last year. Shanghai-based Bright Dairy, the smallest of the top three dairy firms, posted a net profit of RMB 122m in 2009, reversing a net loss of RMB 286m in 2008.
