On February 1st, the Chinese authorities issued its first policy document for 2012, underscoring the importance of scientific and technological innovation for sustained agricultural growth. This is the ninth consecutive year the document has focused on rural problems. Based on abundant experience of serving Chinese agriculture, Mr Huang Dejun, general manager of BOABC shared his profound views.
Science and technology are significant to Chinese agriculture. There are certain important reasons for the No. 1 central document stressing on science and technology. Firstly, local governments have difficulty in budgeting enough for promoting techniques in rural areas. That has caused the loss of talented people. Secondly, the high total yield of agricultural products depends on the improvement of unit yield, in which science and technology play an important part. Food prices drop after Spring Festival
After Spring Festival, farm food prices start falling, including vegetables and meat, while prices for edible oil, rice and flour are stable. According to State Statistics Bureau, most food prices went up during 21-30, January. Especially the prices for certain vegetable varieties such as Chinese cabbages, celeries and cucumbers increase substantially. China’s soybean imports in 2011
China’s soybean imports registered 52.64 million MT in 2011, a drop of 3.9% from the previous year. Of the total, 36% were brought in by wholly foreign-owned companies, 24% by private companies, 20% by Sino-foreign joint-ventures and 18% by state-run companies, down 2%, up 4%, up 1% but down 3% respectively on the year-on-year basis...

Domestic and international sugar prices in Jan. 2012

The international sugar price was on an upward turn in fluctuations in January 2012.
