On June 2011, Legend Holdings announced to start modern agriculture projects and developing famous food brand. In fact, it is not the first or the last IT enterprise trying to enter agriculture in China. Why are they exploring the new field? What can they bring to farmers in China?In recent, Mr Huang Dejun, General Manger of BOABC was invited to a CCTV program to share his opinion on the topic.
Why do IT companies explore agriculture?
From 2004, large-scale agriculture industry grows by 17% annually and which deep processing sector increases by 24% averagely a year. It is the rapid development that strongly attracts IT companies and non-agri corporations. Meanwhile, in Chinese agricultural market, brands are short. In our kitchen, most agricultural products do not have brands except some condiments. That means huge potential. I shall point these IT companies select agriculture after prudent thinking and detailed survey. They actually have prepared.
