How to cap food prices?

The Chinese CPI rose 4.4 percent on year in October, reaching the top in latest 25 months, 74 percent of which is caused by food price rise. Particularly, prices for vegetables increased by 31%. However, as certain countermeasures taken by the government, prices for agricultural products are falling slightly. The countermeasures include carrying out

China Mengniu Dairy Co, the country's largest dairy firm by market value, announced Monday it would invest nearly 500 million yuan ($75.31 million) to purchase a 51 percent stake in Junlebao Dairy Co, the country's fourth-largest yogurt maker.

Mengniu Dairy President Yang Wenjun said the company expects its annual revenue to reach 50 billion yuan ($7.53 billion) and Junlebao's to hit 4 billion yuan ($602.43 million) in the next five years.

Analysts said the deal would help sharpen Mengniu Dairy's competitiveness against rival Inner Mongolia Yili Industrial Group Co.
