China, the largest producer and consumer of pork in the world, is estimated to slaughter 730 million hogs in 2010. But the industry is still far from consolidation. The price fluctuates substantially in recent years and a group of excellent hog-raising enterprises grow up. The industry is stepping to the stage of consolidating. In your opinion, what significance does large-scale production have to Chinese hog industry? What are the bottlenecks?

Hog price remains in the high level, will steadily increase at a later stage

After the state regulate policy involved in the agricultural products prices, some conjectures about whether the hogs price will be fluctuant has emerged. Mr. Chen Shuwei, Deputy General Manager and Senior Analyst of Beijing Orient Argibusiness Company shows his points that the hogs price has been over 14 RMB per kilo over two weeks, reaching 14.1RMB/kilo now. It rises 18.9% compared to the same period of the previous year, and goes up 8.5% compared to last month. The current hog price is higher than the top price of the year 2009. The profit reaches to 400 RMB per head and the gross profit is as high as 28%. Such a gross profit margin only appeared in June 2007 to April 2008.

The hog price has remained at high level since July and high profit has maintained as long as 5 months ...


The corn price will stop rising soon

This year, the corn price appears unusual curves, it raised explosively, caused by the reduction of yield in the main production regions and the released state regulate policy affecting the market. In generally speaking, the normal range of the price rising is between 5% and 10%. The inflation pressure and economic growth speeding up push forward the corn price increasing slightly. However, the supply is sufficient at domestic and overseas markets. It is predicted that the price will stay steadily after a range of growing. In the view of different seasons, in summer, the cultivated area increased 2.32% reaching 11,257 thousands hectares and the total output increased 3.6% reaching 620.7 thousand tons. In spring, the cultivated area increased 5.20% reaching 21,229 thousands hectares and the total output increased 6.5% reaching 1,108.75 thousand tons ...
